Oregon Coast Best Coast

Oregon coast is probably the most overrated, at the same time, underrated vacation destination in the country. If you are from the Pacific Northwest or West Coast in general, you know there are dedicated Facebook fan pages for Oregon coast travel (I know that because I a member of a few of these pages). Meanwhile, if you are not from the western section of the United States, you will probably be wondering where exactly Oregon is on the map. I once talked to a friend from Malaysia and she thought Oregon and Ohio were the same state.

I took a break from social media for the month of May and traveled around Oregon coast with my family. It was our second time visiting Cannon Beach and the surrounding area. We initially visited in the late fall of 2022, and both Gabriel and I remember it as one of our best trips since moving to Seattle.

Oregon coast is magical because it’s full of evergreen forests and giant haystack rocks. The most famous one is Cannon Beach—I dare to make such statement because it made an appearance in an Expedia travel video about Oregon). There is also a sizable elk family that lives near the beach so you get the sandy beach, dramatic waves of the Pacific, majestic rocks, and the possibilities to encounter wild animals.

North of Cannon Beach, you can get to Ecola State Park by car in as little as 10 minutes. If you have ever watched the original Twilight movie, it won’t be hard for you to recognize this state park. Without spoiling the story for those of you who have yet to watch it (but seriously who are you), the protagonist Bella went to hang out with her friends at the so-called “La Push Beach”, but in fact, it was shot on Indian Beach in Ecola State Park. Side note, La Push does exist in real life but it’s a town located in Washington State, and it is indeed close by Forks, WA, where Twilight’ story takes place. Apart from Twilight, the state park’ stunning and rugged beauty also served as a backdrop for films like The Goonies and Point Break.

If you ever have a chance to visit America’s West Coast, I highly recommend you to take a road trip along the Oregon coast. As author Alice Walker puts it best, “In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect”, and Oregon coast amplifies this sentiment in the most perfect way.
